An Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) is a document that sets out the rules for how employees (and sometimes customers) are expected to use an organisation's digital systems. Think of it as a digital code of conduct. Here are the seven key sections:
Scope
Scope defines who the policy applies to — for example, all employees, contractors, volunteers, or even customers using a company's Wi-Fi. A school's AUP might apply to staff and students alike. Being clear about scope means nobody can claim they didn't know the rules applied to them.
