Mind Maps
What is a Mind Map?
A mind map is a visual planning tool used during the ideas generation stage of pre-production. Rather than a list of notes, it spreads ideas outward from a single starting point, making it easy to see how different thoughts connect. In media production, a mind map might be used to explore everything from visual styles and target audiences to equipment and locations — all branching from one central project idea.
Purpose
The purpose of a mind map is to explore and organise ideas at the very start of a project. It helps a producer brainstorm freely without committing to a fixed plan, and it reveals connections between ideas that might not be obvious when thinking in a straight line. It is a thinking tool first, not a finished document.
